ANTS

Introduction to Ants on a Melon (2023)

Light Blading has been my main form of light painting for several years. Way back in 2015 I literally used Google to search for how I could incorporate my Martial Arts into Light Painting. I found a page by Patrick Rochon called ‘Kata’ - In Light Painting and especially Light Blading we speak of ‘flow’ -Flow is more than just movement, it’s the connection between the Light Painting tool and the artist, physically, mentally and spiritually. The resulting art is a visual representation of the artist’s consciousness.

Created in 2012 by Joel Pinkham, Ants on a Melon range of tools have hit the Light Painting world with much vigor. After seeing amazing Light Paintings from the community since, I was finally able to explore the creative possibilities of this tool in the studio. Colour is created by the Critter torch and not through coloured gels or pens (my normal methods) so this creates vivid and punchy colours. Add to this the variable strobing effects and the smooth colour changes, the Critter is a new favourite in my kit. I’m looking forward to learning more of the Critter functions and will be adding to the attachments very soon. This series will evolve as I continue to learn using this torch and system.
